In a moment of immense pride and achievement, Woodland Overseas School, has secured a prestigious position among the top Green School in India in the Green School Program—a highly esteemed initiative by the Government of India.
This national-level Environmental Educational Program, conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, assessed schools across six critical parameters—Air, Energy, Food, Land, Water, And Waste. Out of 11,917 schools that registered from across the country.
Under the Green School Program organized by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Government of India, Woodland Overseas School, Hoshiarpur, has been honored with the prestigious Green School Award. The school achieved this recognition based on audits conducted across six key areas: Air, Energy, Food, Land, Water, and Waste. A total of 11,917 schools from across the country registered for this award.
As is well known, Woodland Overseas School has been an eco-friendly institution since its inception and has won this award multiple times in the past. The award was presented in a grand ceremony at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, by renowned environmentalist Sonam Wangchuk, along with Sunita Narain, Director of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi, Anumita Roychowdhury, Executive Director, and Jagdeep Gupta.
Praising the school’s initiatives, Sonam Wangchuk remarked that the Green School Award is not just an accolade but a responsibility. He emphasized that this honor reflects the school’s consistent efforts and unwavering commitment to environmental conservation. He further stated that education is not confined to textbooks alone but serves as a powerful medium to preserve the environment and raise awareness among future generations. Sunita Narain also highly commended the school, stating that this initiative will inspire other educational institutions and further expand the movement for sustainability and cleanliness.
Since its inception, Woodland Overseas School has integrated crucial environmental concerns such as conservation, afforestation, efficient use of natural resources, and water preservation into its curriculum. The school’s vigilance and proactive approach toward sustainability are evident in the installation of a sewage treatment plant, rainwater harvesting system, vermicomposting unit, energy-efficient classrooms, low-flow fixtures, incinerators, and recycling bins from the very beginning. Regular school assemblies and bulletin boards consistently convey messages promoting environmental awareness.
Additionally, the school has established various eco-friendly clubs and actively celebrates significant environmental awareness days, reinforcing its commitment to fostering a greener and more sustainable future.

Moreover, the school’s greenhouse plays a crucial role in educating students about environmental purity, where plants are nurtured using harvested rainwater and recycled water from air conditioners.
The school took a pioneering step by banning plastic, thermocol, and silver foil long ago, ensuring a completely pollution-free environment. Additionally, during fruit breaks, discarded peels are repurposed into organic compost, which is then used to nourish the plants.
